I am all about TRUTH.  Knowing Truth is what makes and keeps us free and able to experience joy separate from our circumstance.

After studying and applying the principles of counseling and personal improvement for 4 decades, I have found and learned about three authors who’s approaches are most aligned with actual Truth as centered in Jesus Christ.  They are: Alfred Adler, Victor Frankl, and Steven R.Covey.  I have also adopted some of the work of Eric Berne (TA) and Aaron Beck (CBT).

I started out in the helping profession by doing volunteer work with the Crisis Line and Rape Crisis Intervention teams in Utah County, UT.  I was in my Senior year of Bachelor’s study at BYU and became a trainer for the teams about the time I was accepted into the double Master’s Degree program pursuing a Master’s of Marriage and Family Therapy and Master of Social Work (MSW).

After graduation I served active duty in the Air Force as a medical officer doing clinical social work for 3 years.  Then I worked as a civilian for 2 years at Travis AFB.  Shortly after that, I got my LCSW license and started private practice.  I practiced personal and couples therapy in private practice from 1991, when I founded North Star Counseling, until I accepted a mission call to the Philippines to do counseling of missionaries for 18 months.

Since my return from the Philippines in 2019, I have exclusively done Life Coaching.  I had found a coaching program, Clarity Point Coaching, which adopted most of my core principles of therapy, and enjoyed doing coaching rather than therapy with some of my clients.  I found that coaching freed me up to share more of my own life journey with my clients, and allowed me to give more advice.  I enjoyed providing both coaching and psychotherapy for a couple of years before my mission call, but found my heart to be more in coaching, as informed by 37 years of psychotherapy.
